QUALITY IS BUILT-IN
Flat roofing is commonly found on commercial buildings with a low slope or slight pitch, but you will also find flat roofing on some contemporary designed residential homes. Most flat/low-slope roofs have a slight pitch that allows water to drain easily to the outside of the building, usually to scuppers and downspouts, or interior roof drains. There are several types of roofing membranes used on the market today (TPO, PVC, EPDM, Built-Up Roofing, Modified Bitumen).
In regards to quality & consistency, single-ply membranes have the biggest advantage over built-up roofing systems because the QUALITY IS BUILT-IN. Single-ply membranes are manufactured in a controlled environment where the quality is maintained and supervised, unlike the installation process of traditional built-up roof systems. Then, the single-ply material is shipped in rolls and ready to easily install, per the manufacturer’s specifications.
Below are some brief descriptions of the 2 most popular single-ply membranes on the market today:

- TPO : Thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) is a durable, lightweight single ply membrane used on flat roofs. It is popular roofing due to its versatility, low installation costs, and energy efficiency capabilities. It comes highly recommended as a non-toxic and eco-friendly roofing material. The most common thickness for TPO is 45-mil and 60 mil. Up to a 25 year manufacturer warranty is offered on commercial install and up to a 30 year manufacturer warranty on residential. Most TPO systems can be installed over an existing roof, eliminating the need for messy tear-offs, reducing landfill usage and preserving our natural resources.
- PVC: Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) roofing is a single-ply membrane, made of thick, flexible UV resistant thermoplastic material. Like TPO, It is popular roofing due to its versatility, low installation costs, and energy efficiency capabilities. It comes highly recommended as a non-toxic and eco-friendly roofing material. PVC comes in thickness of 25 mil, 45-mil, 60-mil and 80 mil. PVC is Class A fire rated and has up to a 30 year manufacturer warranty on commercial install and up to a Lifetime warranty by some manufacturers on a residential installation. Most PVC systems can be installed over an existing roof, eliminating the need for messy tear-offs, reducing landfill usage and preserving our natural resources.
