Low Maintenance, Long Lasting
There are essentially two types of composition shingles – Architectural and 3-Tab composition shingles.
Architectural shingles are also commonly referred to as laminate shingles in the industry and are the more expensive shingle type. This shingle is quite durable and provides definition to the roof which makes the architectural shingle more aesthetically pleasing to the eye. This shingle type is also available in a Class 4 impact resistant material which makes it even more durable and resistant to hail damage. Depending on your insurance carrier, there can be an insurance savings by installing a Class 4 impact resistant shingle.
3-Tab Shingles, conversely, are much thinner and less durable, but easier to install. Due to these factors, the overall installation is much lower, in comparison to the architectural shingle. The 3-tab shingle will not provide the definition, or a layered shingle appearance, like the architectural shingle.
